Things To Do - Tongariro National ParkThe Tongariro National Park is truly the adventure playground of the North Island. And it doesn't just stop at the Tongariro Alpine Crossing and the Mt Ruapehu ski areas. Our local area is abundant with action packed and adrenaline pumped adventures and activities but can also host the perfect spot to unwind with something a little more slow paced. At Plateau Lodge we can help to arrange and book your next adventure in the Tongariro National Park, and offer the perfect place to relax in comfort after a long day in the wilderness. Hikes/Walks:
- Tongariro Alpine Crossing - is a 7-8hr hike over two active volcanoes. A must do while visiting the Tongariro National Park. See Tongariro Alpine Crossing
- Taranaki Falls - Is a 2hr loop track 6km in length starting on Ngauruhoe Place just below the Whakapapa Visitor Centre.
- Silica Rapids - Is a 2 1/2hr return walk via Bruce Rd 7km in length starting 250m above the Whakapapa Visitor Centre.
- Whakapapanui Track - Is a 2hr return walk via Bruce Rd or the same track 6km in length starting 250m above the Whakapapa Visitor Centre.
- Lake Rotopaunamu - Is a 2hr loop track 5km in length starting 37km from National Park Village on SH47.
- Tama Lakes - Is a 5-6hr hike returning on the same track 7km in length starting on Ngauruhoe Place just below the Whakapapa Visitors Centre.
- Taranaki Lookout - Is a 2hr return walk starting in National Park Village on Fishers Track, just accross the railway lines at the end of Carroll st and on to the Tupapakurua Falls Track.
- Fishers Track - Is a 2hr return walk starting in National Park Village on Fishers Track, just accross the railway lines at the end of Carroll st.
- Tupapakurua Falls- Is a challenging 4-5hr return hike starting in National Park Village on Fishers Track, just accross the railway lines at the end of Carroll st and on to the Tupapakurua Falls Track.
    
Mountain Biking: - 42 Traverse - Is a 4-6hr ride over varied terrain, 46km in length. Starting 18kms from National Park Village in the Tongariro Forest and finishing in Owhango. Transport is required. See Kiwi Mountain Bikes for more details.
- Fishers Track - Is a 17km ride in the Erua Forest, 95% downhill with a 520m decent. Starting at Fishers Road in National Park Village transport is required to return you back to National Park Village. See Kiwi Mountain Bikes for more details.
  
River Trips: - Whakapapa River - Half day guided inflatable kayak tours departing from National Park Village twice daily. No experience required. For more information see Adventure Kayak Tours
- Whanganui River - 1-6 day guided or unguided canoe or kayak adventures available. Trips depart from National Park Village daily. No Experience required. See Wades Landing Outdoors for more details.
    
Other Fun: - Paintball - Day and night games in a purpose built indoor arena. 2 to 30 players and no shoot em up experience required. Erua Village, state HW4, 5mins south of National Park Village. See paintball for more details.
